FAQ

Can you tell me more about the free consultation call?

The call is for you to tell me about your situation and ask me questions about how I work and what methods I would use to help you. It also gives you a sense of my personality and what it’s like talking to me.

By the end of our conversation, you should have a good idea of whether or not you want to work with me.  The call also gives me information on how I can best meet your needs; if I feel that I’m not the right therapist for you, I’ll give you an appropriate referral to someone who might be a better fit.

What happens in the first session?

The first session will be a chance for me to get to know you and clarify and receive more information about your situation (to enhance what was discussed in the free consultation), we’ll discuss confidentiality, fee structure, therapeutic boundaries, and cancellation policy. We will also get a sense of your goals for therapy and talk about a plan to best support you through the process. For children, adolescents, and teens I ask that a parent(s) join us for the first 15 minutes of the first appointment so we can communicate clearly about the above mentioned items.

What does sliding scale and low/no cost mean?

My regular session rate is $120. To better assist those clients who cannot afford the regular rate (college students, low and fixed income) I offer a sliding scale based on need, which I determine during on our conversation. A no cost option is available for those who are already in therapy with me and who are experiencing a financially difficult moment (end of the term/financial aid dwindled). It’s my belief that this is a an exceedingly important time to have emotional support and I work with clients to assure they get that support.
